# Cosmetic Labels

> Cosmetic labels for skincare and beauty: oil- and alcohol-resistant stock, small-diameter adhesion, clear no-label film and bathroom-proof finishes.

Category: labels · Minimum order: From 50 units · Lead time: Typically 7–12 working days after artwork approval

## The bathroom is a harsh environment

A cosmetic label spends its life in the worst room in the house: steam, water, oil, alcohol-based actives and constant handling. The failures are predictable — ink rubs off, edges lift, the label slides on a wet bottle, or a "waterproof" paper label turns translucent within a week.

Choosing the material for the environment, rather than for the mockup, is most of the job.

## Materials by product type

| Product | Material | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Serum, dropper bottle | PP or clear film with white ink | Small diameter, oil contact, premium look |
| Cream jar | PP or PET | Curved side, wet hands |
| Shampoo, body wash | PP | Squeeze, water, repeated handling |
| Makeup compact | Coated paper or PET | Dry handling, print quality matters |
| "No-label" look | Clear film + white ink | Shows the product, hides the film |

Textured and uncoated papers photograph beautifully and fail quickly in a shower. If the brand look depends on paper, keep the product out of direct water or accept a shorter label life.

## Small diameters and edge lift

Dropper bottles are often 25–30 mm across. On that radius, a standard 80 g paper face stock will lift at the edges within days. Two fixes: a thinner face stock, or a softer adhesive formulated for curved, low-surface-energy surfaces such as HDPE.

If the label wraps more than 180°, ask for a curved-surface adhesive and test on the actual bottle before the full run.

## White ink and the no-label look

Clear film on a clear bottle looks invisible only if the design accounts for what sits behind it. Colours print translucent without a white backing layer, and text over a coloured liquid can disappear entirely. A white-ink pass solves it and is quoted separately — expect it to be a meaningful share of the cost at small quantities.

## Finishes

Matte lamination reads as premium and hides water spots. Soft-touch lamination feels expensive and marks easily with oily fingers — a real trade-off on a hand-held product. Foil and spot UV add shelf presence but are extra passes, and foil on a small label needs a design that leaves room for the die.

## Regulatory text

Ingredients, net content and batch codes usually have to appear on the label. Keep the text at a readable size and inside the safe area — a 4 pt ingredient list on a curved bottle is a common cause of a reprint. Where the regulation applies (EU cosmetics, US FDA), the responsibility for the wording is the brand's; we print what you approve.
