# Jar Labels

> Custom jar labels for preserves, candles and cosmetics: wrap sizing for curved glass, condensation-resistant stock and foil or matte finishes.

Category: labels · Minimum order: From 50 units · Lead time: Typically 7–12 working days after artwork approval

## Curved glass is the constraint

A jar is a cylinder, and a cylinder punishes stiff materials. The label has to wrap without wrinkling, hold at the edges, and — on a candle or a preserve — survive heat or condensation while doing it.

The two variables that matter are the label's wrap length and the face stock's stiffness. A short front panel on a wide jar is forgiving. A full wrap on a 60 mm jar is not.

## Sizing the wrap

Measure the circumference at the label's height, then choose the coverage:

- **Front panel** — a third or less of the circumference; easiest to apply, cheapest per label.
- **Two-thirds wrap** — covers the front and one side; needs a curved-surface adhesive on small jars.
- **Full wrap** — leaves a small seam gap; requires a dieline and careful proofing, because the design must meet itself at the seam.

For tapered jars, a rectangular label will wrinkle at the top edge. The fix is a curved dieline, which we can prepare from the jar dimensions.

## Material by jar type

| Jar | Material | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Preserves, chilled after opening | PP | Condensation and sticky handling |
| Dry goods (honey, spices) | Coated paper | Cheaper, adequate indoors |
| Candle | Paper or PP with heat-resistant adhesive | Warm glass softens standard adhesive |
| Cosmetic jar | PP or clear film | Oil and water resistance |

Candle jars deserve a note: the glass gets warm, and a standard permanent adhesive can slide or lift at 40–50 °C. Tell us it is a candle and we will specify accordingly.

## Finish and appearance

Matte lamination reads as craft and hides fingerprints; gloss makes colours pop but shows every mark. Foil on a jar label is common for premium food and candles, and needs a design with enough clear space for the die and for the fold over the curve.

On clear glass, white ink behind the design is what makes colours opaque. Without it, a red logo on amber glass reads brown.

## Quantity and cost

Jar labels are priced on printed area, material, finishing and quantity. Because the label is often large relative to the jar, material is a bigger share of the cost than on a small bottle label — a wrap uses two to three times the stock of a front panel.

## Ordering

Send the jar dimensions (height and diameter), the intended coverage, the product type and the storage condition. A photo of the jar with a ruler against it is usually enough to size the dieline.
